Ice Show, Dec 5th - 7th

No it’s not a Figure Skating competition but rather an event that many fellow ice anglers look forward to. It’s the St Paul Ice Fishing Show, Dec 5th – 7th at the St Paul River Centre. This is the largest show in the US dedicated to the sport of Ice Fishing. I know it may sound crazy to some but to many of use “hardwaterfanatics” it’s a place to see the new products that will be available for the upcoming ice fishing season. Vendors of all sorts will be there from Flashers to Underwater Cameras to Portable Fish houses to the luxurious Hard Sided Houses that are available in this day and age.

If you’re one of those people that enjoys the sport of ice fishing and are looking for something to do, just in case the ice isn’t quite safe yet on the lakes, swing down to St Paul for the show and I think you’ll walk away with a smile on your face and maybe a lighter wallet as well!

Frabill, the new Leader on Ice

Frabill – the Leader in Innovations for Fishing Enthusiasts – is going to be launching a new design and a few new shelters this coming Ice Season. I think those looking for a new shelter will be pleased with what Frabill has to offer them and will be pleased with the quality and functionality of the product that Frabill is putting out. I’d just like to briefly talk about a few of their new Shelters as well a few of their other models as well.

The first new model is for the guy that fishes solo and wants to be able to run and gun, but feel comfortable when he’s peering down the ice hole waiting to pull a fish up thru the ice. ...”Fishing solo this season? Go Commando” This is a deluxe 1 man fish house that boasts the largest fishing area of any 1man on the market, as well as having the most head room – 64” – so a guy can sit comfortably and not feel crowded. It comes with a padded seat that will keep you comfortable, as well as a large front door. This shelter is also equipped their new Max Vent Air Exchange system, which is a new venting system they’ve incorporated into their houses this year. The windows are removable, like all Frabill houses, so you don’t have to worry about cracked windows when you go to set up your house each time. At 59lbs its light enough for a guy to pull around and not feel beat by the time he gets to his “honey hole”.

The next model is for those who enjoy a bit of company on the ice. The Predator is a roomy 2 man, if needed you could probably squeeze a third guy in there as well. This think is built to handle to toughest conditions you can put it in. With a newly designed “Roto Molded Base” you can be sure that your gear is going to be kept secure and in tact when going across the ice. Beefing up the pole system, they have gone to a 1-1/4” Aluminum pole system that features self lubricating bushings to keep the poles sliding nice and free under the most extreme conditions! They’ve also added a rear zippered door to go along with the large front zippered door, giving anglers access to their houses from both ends of the house. It comes with 2 of those comfortable and durable MSS seats that Frabill is so famous for as well. For those looking to do plenty of travel with their gear, the Predator may be one to check out.

The last new model that Frabill has come out with this year is their R2-Tec 7080 shack. Last year Frabill launched the R2-Tec line and it was the best insulated house on the market. Heat loss isn’t a factor in this house as the Canvas is lined with Thinsulate FR Insulation by 3M. You can be sure you’ll stay warm and that the howling winter winds don’t stand a chance against this house. With many of the same features as the Predator… Roto Molded Base, 1-1/4” Aluminum pole system along with the self lubricating bushings, front and rear doors ; you can be sure you’re getting the best on the market with this one. If you’re the kind of person that can’t seem to stay warm while out on the ice, check out the R2-Tec 7080 model as you may feel like you’re sitting at home in this one.

As for the existing models Frabill offered last year, many of the things remain the same but there are a few changes. All houses sport the new canvas with the grey, black and yellow colors. They all come with the removable windows that save a guy from worrying about windows cracking on those cold days.

One of the shelters I should note that has been updated is the Frabill Recon. It is now the Recon DLX and sports a padded stadium style seat…no more bucket butt! This is one of the lightest one mans on the market so portability will be easy with this one.
Be sure to give their other models a look too… Magnum, Trekker, Trekker DLX, Hideout. Whatever you’re fishing style you can be sure Frabill has a fish house to fit your needs. They’ve also got accessories for all their houses as well… covers, hyfax, towbars.

The question they are asking this year is … “Are you ready to lead?” If so, click the link below to look at all their models in their 2008-2009 Ice Guide. Go to www.Frabill.com to be the New Leader on the Ice this season.
